The Monticello-Drew County Chamber of Commerce wants to remind everyone that the DCHS Homecoming will be held on October 9; UAM Homecoming is scheduled for October 10; and MHS will hold their Homecoming activities on October 16.
We encourage everyone to join in the excitement and show your support for these great schools.
The chamber is offering colorful, 18×24 yard signs, printed on two sides and complete with ground stakes. The price is $20 each, OR, you may purchase all three for only $50. There will be a special called meeting of the Monticello City Council, tonight at 6 PM, to consider passing on to city voters, a 1/4 cent sales tax issue, designed to build a 3,000 seat event center, which was declined to be put on the ballot, last Monday, by the DrewCounty Quorum Court.
The court will be introduced during pregame ceremonies beginning at 2:30 p.m. this Saturday at Convoy Leslie-Cotton Boll Stadium. The homecoming queen, chosen by a vote of the student body, will be announced at the conclusion of the ceremony.

But today, the Drew County Sheriff’s Office has received multiple reports in reference to Arkansas Scholarship Lottery, Arkansas Sheriff’s Association and the Arkansas State Police soliciting money from citizens of Drew County.
Bob Ware, Vice Chancellor for the University of Arkansas at Monticello College of Technology at McGehee (UAM-CTM), today announced his candidacy for District 11 Seat in the Arkansas House of Representatives.
Ware has worked in public service for over 45 years. He began his tenure with UAM-CTM in 1975, serving as assistant director, a position he held for 26 years. He then went on to serve as president for the Great Rivers Technical Institute in McGehee for three years, before being selected to his current position as vice chancellor at UAM-CTM. African-American Alumni and former students who have attended the University of Arkansas at Monticello will be gathering in Monticello to celebrate Homecoming 2015 on Thursday through Sunday, October 8-11.
In its 16th year of coordinating activities during the UAM Homecoming weekend, the African-American Alumni Association will officially kick off its weekend with a breakfast and reception at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the John F. Gibson’s Capital Room. The cost of the breakfast is $20 per person and may be paid at the door.
On that morning, fourteen honorees will be inducted into the African-American “Alumni Elite.” All of the recipients were nominated by a group of their peers and certified by the organization’s planning board.
The 2015 Alumni Elite honorees include Bryant Cato, Adrin Hinton, Ebony Grant-Holliman, Yvonda Jones, Marjorie Martin, Lionel Maten, Nakia McKay, Kirby Merritt, Jamison Nelson, Stanley Nelson, Amanda Orr, Truman Tolefree, Tracy Walker and Tasha Webb-Wilson. Read the rest of this entry »
