City Wastewater Treatment Project Completed and Operational

According to Monticello Mayor Jason Akers, the City of Monticello has completed the another infrastructure project to improve the cities ability to process wastewater.
The cities West Wastewater Treatment Plant’s new aeration systems have been installed and are operational and functioning properly.
Aeration systems in sewer ponds clean the water of toxins by providing oxygen that stabilizes the water.
According to Mayor Akers, “Critical infrastructure repair is more than just replacing old water lines. It’s multi-faceted. From water tanks, water lines, water treatment, and water wells. All of these things work in concert together to make up a safe and functional water system and we continually address these issues. This is what our tax dollars are supposed to be utilized for. Without water, nothing else matters.”
The cost of this project was $538,631, which includes roughly $39,000 in cost related to expanding electrical capabilities to the ponds to power the aerators. Monticello will receive a partial reimbursement of the total project cost through ARPA funds now that the project is operational.
