City Flooding Drainage Infrastructure Improvements Moving Forward

On March 14th at 2:00 p.m. at City Hall, bids were opened for a grant funded city drainage project that was applied for in 2023 as part of the Mayor’s infrastructure improvement agenda.
The project, encompassing Jackson, Conley and multiple side streets is funded by a grant from the Arkansas Department of Emergency Management.
After bids are opened, work will begin this year to improve the drainage for city residents in the area after experiencing years of flooding issues.
The residents affected have suffered home and property damage for years due to the area being a low-lying area positioned near flood zones. The condition of the Godfrey ditch, which most storm water in Monticello flows in to, over time has deteriorated in its ability to shuttle water out of the residential neighborhoods.
This project, along with other previously performed drainage work performed by city crews, hopes to alleviate water backup and permit the waterways to flow as intended.
The Mayor also encourages local interested contractors that meet criteria to review the bid specifications on the project by visiting the website of A.L Franks engineering, who is engineering the project.
