City receives $300,000 in State Street Aid Funds for Paving North Hyatt Street

The City of Monticello received notification this week of the State Street Aid Committee’s approval of the Mayor’s request of the repair and paving of North Hyatt Street. North Hyatt services multiple subdivisions and neighborhoods, churches, Oakland Cemetery and locally owned businesses.
With City Council approval, North Hyatt will be paved from its intersection with Gaines all the way to the Post Office/ Highway 425 intersection. Bidding on the project is expected to begin in February 2024.
“Decades of issues have most of our streets in desperate need of repair and repaving. By utilizing these funds on one large section of roadway, we get more for the money and more benefit for ALL citizens and not just a few. Our plan for the future is to use state or federal funds such as this for the larger streets that serve all of our citizens. We can then prioritize by need and work on the shorter, smaller residential streets with local tax money when grants aren’t available. Our streets didn’t get this bad overnight and they won’t get better overnight, but this project is a huge step in the right direction”.
