UAM Receives STEM Grant To Support Mathematics Education

The Arkansas Department of Higher Education has awarded a No Child Left Behind Grant to the STEM Center at the University of Arkansas at Monticello, according to Kim Level, interim dean of the UAM School of Education.
The grant, which totals $60,888, will be used to provide middle school teachers with math content and pedagogy to improve student achievement in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The UAM STEM Center was one of 10 chosen statewide to receive a grant.
The course will consist of eight 6-hour workshops June 5-8 and June 12-15 as well as two Saturday workshops during the school year and two classroom visits by mentors to observe participants teaching lessons developed during the summer.
Each participant will receive a $1,500 stipend for attending the course and meeting the course requirements as well as $300 in books and materials.
