Memories of the Past – Water Wheel Grist Mill on Bowser Road
June 2nd, 2017 byMany years ago, but not too far back for some of us to remember, corn and wheat were ground by a “gristmill”.
They were used to grind flour for families to prepare meals with, and corn to feed the animals.
This homemade gristmill is a replica (that really works) is located on Bowser Road. It was built by a man who has used greatest meals before.
Many “water wheel grist mills” were eventually converted to operate off of mechanical means. I remember the John Deere Gristmill that my dad had, that had been converted over to run off of his tractor’s PTO link.
