2nd Rape Charge & Drugs Sends Local Man Back to Prison

June 6th, 2017 by

IMG_9760In an update to the story below, a former Drew County man, who went to prison in 2002 for raping a 16-year-old Monticello boy, had his probation revoked, Monday, on testimony that he failed to register as a sex offender when he moved to a new area , after getting out of prison.

Circuit Judge Bynum Gibson ruled that Lewis Ray, age 53, violated his probation on February 9 when he was arrested for possession of drugs, and the rape of a handicapped 18-year-old man,  between Fountain Hill and Lacey.

Monday’s court hearing included testimony of the events of  February 9 by 2 Ashley County deputies, the UAM student who saw and assisted the victim, and the victim himself.

The victim told the court how Ray had threatened him with a gun and a knife, prior to the assault,  after his grandmother had taken him to the parolee’s residence to clean the leaves off of the back porch.

Ray was sentenced to serve 10 years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections on the charge of failing to register as a sex offender, and still faces the drug and rape charges in Ashley County.
