Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics

Law enforcement officers from Ashley and Drew County gave their time and effort on Wednesday, May 22nd to participate in the Area 12 leg of the 2015 Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) for Special Olympics Arkansas.
The torch run involves multiple agencies beginning at all four corners of Arkansas making its way to the 2015 Special Olympics Arkansas Summer Games in Searcy, May 23-25, to light the Flame of Hope which burns throughout the games competition.
The Area 12 portion of the torch run began in Ashley County at the Ashley County Sheriff’s Office/Detention Facility, with runners from Ashley County Sheriff’s Department, Crossett Police Department, Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, and Hamburg District Court, making its way through Hamburg to the Ashley/Drew county line where the Drew County Sheriff’s Department took over and continued to Monticello with a stop by the Discovery Skills Center before continuing on to the Monticello square. The Drew County/Monticello leg was escorted by the Arkansas State Police and had runners from Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, Drew County Sheriff’s Department, and Monticello Police Department.
Leg coordinator and Area 12 co-director Tierra Stewart stated that she was “overwhelmed and touched by the continued support of our law enforcement community and their commitment to our athletes. We are so thankful for everyone involved in the torch run and other LETR activities.”
