Convicted Murderer with Life Sentence Pleads Guilty to Gun Charge

October 3rd, 2014 by

WilliamsA Monticello man, recently convicted for the first degree murder of a young Warren woman, has agreed to a plea bargain of 15 years on the charge of gun possession at the time of the murder investigation.

Fred Williams was found guilty on August 29 by a Drew County jury for the first degree murder of Tangela  Walton. The jury sentence Williams to life in prison, with an additional 20 years for the charge of “abuse of a corpse”. After having earlier denied a plea bargain for the felon in possession of a firearm charge, on Wednesday, Williams accepted an additional 15 years in prison, for the gun possession charges (which will run concurrent with this other time to be served.) After Ms. Walton’s disappearance, law-enforcement believed her phone was inside Williams’ residence.  As they were executing a search warrant for that phone, multiple firearms were found.

Due to Williams previous murder conviction, he was not allowed to possess firearms. Since these charges are unrelated to the Walton murder, the charges were not included in the earlier court case.
