Firemen Rescue Local Man from Burning Trailer

June 12th, 2014 by

Sunday afternoon at 4:25, the Monticello Fire Dept. was paged out to a trailer fire, on Piney Creek Lane, just off of HWY 278 East.

When the firefighters arrived, they were told that the man who lived there could possibly still be inside the burning extended camper trailer.

Firefighters Dale Jones and Michael Barnett entered the building, filled with toxic smoke and re-kindling flames, to search for the man, believed to be in his mid-20s.

After searching several rooms, they found the non-responsive resident lying in the living room area, and brought him out to safety.

Another firefighter, Eric Chisom, began performing CPR on the lifeless victim, until EMTs arrived.

SEEMS transported the man to Drew Memorial, then transferred him onto JRMC, where he remains in intensive care.

Drew County Sheriff’s deputies also responded, and escorted the ambulance to DMH.

The fire reportedly started in the kitchen.

We usually think thatĀ firemen respond to house and structure firesĀ in an effort to save the properties. Many times firefighters are criticized for driving “too fast.”

We, and they, never know when someone’s life hangs in the balance, and we should all appreciate these men who were willing to risk their lives to save our’s.

I am thankful for all involved to save this young man, I have known him since he was 10 or 12 yrs old and hope that it is God’s plan for him to fully recover. His parents have been through so much in the last several years. God knows their heartache and hears their prayers. If you all could say a thank you and amen each night for those firemen, EMT’s and police who respond to calls of this nature daily and please keep this family uplifted in your prayers, they have a long road ahead of them.
