$50,000 Bond Set for Fatal Sunday Shooting, Aggravated Assault Charge Added

June 5th, 2014 by

imageThe 19-year-old Monticello youth, charged in the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old Monticello man, received a $50,000 bond, Tuesday, on the charges of manslaughter, tampering with evidence, and aggravated assault (against another nearby person).

Drew County Circuit Judge Kenny Johnson ruled that there was probable cause to charge Harold Goffen III in the case, and also to order Goffen not to contact witnesses in the case.

The charge of aggravated assault was added, listing a bystander as the victim, for the risk present when the gun was fired.

Goffen had bonded out of jail by Wednesday morning.

Sources told MLive that the friends (described as “brothers” by Goffen) had been sending in the front of a residence, when the gunshot took place, and added that witnesses reported there had been no fighting or arguing taking place.

Goffen’s arm was bandaged, during the court hearing, from an injury that took place during the panic after the shot was fired.

  1. Crystal says:

This is all so tragic. These young men were like brothers and I know that this was not intentional so I hope the judge takes that into consideration. I will continue to pray for both De’Angelo’s family as well as Harold and his family! May God give you all strength and comfort.
