Caretakers, Suspected of $40,000 Scam of Elderly Man, Released on $50,000 Bond

September 30th, 2013 by

scamA Monticello couple have been released on $50,000 bond each, following an ongoing $40,000 scam of former Municipal Judge and City Councilman Clifton Bond.

The couple, Maurice Evans (51) and Angela Evans (46) had assisted Judge Bonds late wife with many tasks, without any problems or suspicions.

Several months ago, they approach Judge Bonds about assisting him with lawncare and personal services, such as cooking and housework  This eventually led to them having access to his checkbook.

A total of $40,000 is believed to be involved.  The charges include theft by reception, forgery, and theft of property.

In one instance, the victim agreed to pay $3,000 to have his house painted; but was eventually charged four payments of $3,000 for the project.

When the victim realized what was taking place, they threatened to leave; causing him to be put in a rest-home, since he was dependent on their caretaking assistance.

Both Maurice Evans and Angela Evans have been released on a $50,000 bond, wtth a restraining order to stay away from the victim.

The investigaion is still underway.

The victim now has new caretaker to assist him.

So sad that the elderly are preyed on. As a nation we do not respect our elderly as other countries. WE should see them as important and respect them

  2. a friend says:

This hit me hard BC people should not treat the elderly in this manner…..Judge Bond is a very sweet man and they should be put in jail and stay there…

  3. cindy barajas says:
