Monticello’s deteriorating water system has been a major topic of concern and discussion with the City Council for the past two years. Last night, the City Council voted to select Siemons Corporation to perform a detailed analysis of what will be needed to upgrade the city’s water system to a properly functioning condition.

Two representatives from Siemons were present at the meeting, and explained to the Council that the detailed study of the city’s water department infrastructure, water system, pipes and meters would be performed with no risk or cost to the city. This is allowed under the Arkansas state contracting laws.

The study would involve the company doing a survey of the town, examining blueprints, pulling meters, examining the condition of pipes and all related equipment. About 60 days from the beginning of this evaluation, the information gathered along with a detailed report on the work needed and costs analysis of this project would be presented to the Council for their consideration. This would be a completely cost-free, no-obligation service, and would be the first step in upgrading the city’s water system.

The Council voted to allow Siemons to perform the study. Siemons was the only company that had requested consideration for this project.
