MHS Forensics Team Earn First Place Sweepstakes Award

October 24th, 2012 by

The MHS forensics team earned a First Place Sweepstakes Award at their first tournament of the year which was held at Little Rock Central. Seven powerful performers brought home the awards: Rebecca Stephenson earned 1st place in Dramatic Interpretation, 1st place in Prose Interpretation, and 2nd place in Poetry Interp.

The mime performance of Savannah Reynolds, Zach Cason and Mary Kate Jones earned 1st place. Two Improvised Duet Acting teams advanced to finals: Savannah Reynolds & Emily Grubbs (2nd place) and Zach Cason & Mary Kate Jones (Finalist). Emily Grubbs advanced to semi-finals in Poetry, and Krystle Conyers advanced to semi-finals in Prose. Jasmine Davis earned 4th place in a preliminary round of Prose. The 6 who advanced are now qualified to attend the Tournament of Champions in April.

These tournaments are open divisions; so to advance to the next round, MHS competes with students from all of the attending schools. MHS students are competing with the best in the state and advancing to the final rounds. Attending the tournament were 17 schools: 237 students (297 event entries). Monticello’s 7 students earned the 4th highest team score overall behind Bentonville (63 students), Fayetteville (30), and Rogers Heritage (25). Monticello, as usual, was the only school representing southern Arkansas.
