August 10th, 2012 by

According to Sheriff Mark Gober, the Drew County Sheriff’s Department on the morning of Tuesday, August 7th, arrested Harvey Earl Lawson, age 24 of Monticello, after a warrant was issued based on charges stemming from a traffic stop that occurred in the early morning hours of Saturday, August 4th.

At approximately 2:00 AM Saturday morning, a Sheriff’s Deputy initiated a traffic stop on Highway 278 West in Wilmar. As the deputy approached the vehicle and came in contact with the driver, he noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Harvey Lawson, a passenger of the vehicle was asked to step out of the vehicle, which he complied. Lawson then pushed the deputy and started fleeing. While the deputy was attempting to restrain Lawson, Lawson kicked the deputy in the hand fracturing one of his fingers. After a brief struggle, Lawson managed to escape. A bench warrant was issued for Lawson, who was arrested on Tuesday, August 7th without incident. Lawson is charged with resisting arrest, fleeing, and assaulting an officer. His bond was set at $3,500. He remains in jail at the time of this press release.

  1. ex police officer says:

$3500 !! Is that it ?? I think anytime someone assaults an Officer it should be mandatory jail time and a lot bigger bond than that. If they are big enough and bad enough to assault a officer they should be bad enough to set in jail.
