The Monticello Lady Billies are currently 13 - 5. After winning nine straight games, they dropped two to Crossett on Thursday night, 10-3 and 3-0. Previously, they beat Dumas 14-0, L.R. Mills 14-0 and 9-2, L. R. McClellan 13-0 and 11-0, White Hall in two nail-biter games 3-2 and 8-6, and West Helena 17-0 and 29-0.
Coach Ryan Morgan said, “We are starting to peak at the right time. As a team, we are batting 154/388, .397 with 165 runs scored.”
Senior Annabeth Rippee has 49 strike outs and four no-hit shut-outs thus far. Sophomore Jessica Curce has 73 strike outs and two no-hit shut-outs and one 5-hit shut-out.
“Both pitchers are doing great. We are excited about where we are at this point. Last year we ended up fourth in conference and now it is good to be playing for a number one seed,” said Morgan.
Currently, Monticello is tied for first place with White Hall and Crossett. If they win the next games against Pulaski Academy and Pulaski Robinson, they will be seeded third for the state tournament. Their next game is next Friday, April 27, against Pulaski Academy at Burns Park.
