The University of Arkansas at Monticello Cotton Blossoms softball program has picked up their second consecutive Gulf South Conference-West Division Player of the Week award, as first baseman Meredith Heckel (Jr., Hot Springs, Ark.) has been named Player of the Week for the week ending February 25.
Heckel hit .571 over a two-game stretch that saw the Blossoms pick up wins against Missouri Western and Texas Wesleyan. The junior had six RBI in only seven at-bats, smashing three home runs over the weekend and adding a double. With UAM’s two wins, the Cotton Blossoms pushed their win streak to eight games and improved their season record to 9-6.
“It was great to see Meredith play like we know she can,” said Blossoms head coach Alvy Early. “She has always been consistent, and she hit the ball hard in both games. We have had excellent offensive production across the board so far and I hope we can keep hitting.”
Heckel follows catcher/right fielder Becca Tipton (Fr., Dermott, Ark.) who won the award last week.
The Cotton Blossoms’ next game is Thursday in Arkadelphia against Ouachita Baptist.
