6  local fire depts. and the Arkansas Forestry Commission fought the blazes, in 4 separate areas.

Monticello, Barkada, Clear Creek, Wilmar, Collins-Cominto, and Valley Fire Depts. battled fires near the roadways, while the Forestry Commission used their “spotter plane” and 7 fire-plows to battle the fires in the wooded areas.

Around 5 pm, the 2 smaller fires, estimated to be around 5 acres each, were contained, with the larger one estimated to be 2/3 contained.

By 6:30, the large fire, estimated to be approximately 60, was contained, with plows “mopping up” the remaining hot spots.
