The Arkansas National Guard Delta Company 39th Brigade Support Battalion will be leaving Monticello around 3 p.m. today to be stationed in Ft. Shelby, Mississippi, before being deployed to a one year duty in Iraq.
Their time of service will begin upon their arrival at the base in Mississippi.
Several Monticello residents have expressed interest in giving the troops a send-off, by lining the highway with signs, banners, and flags.
At this time, their route has not been confirmed, but will most likely include HWY 425 just south of UAM.

I don’t have any family or friends that left today but I was one to help see them off and it was very emotional to watch them leave. I hope that god will keep them safe during their tour and bring them ALL back home to us. We all love every one of you guys and will be waiting for you when you return!!!!!
God Bless!!!
It was a very emotional sendoff. My husband is on his 3rd round and we hope it will be his last before he retires, my son and soninlaws 2nd round.
I talked to one of my sisters this morning, she called our local Walmart, told them what was needed for our troops and the families. Walmart responded by donating snacks and drinks.
We are grateful for the donations that made the sendoff a lot better and some easier on the families. One less worry for a little while.
I am so happy to see the participation of the community and i bet the soldiers and their families are too. I pray that they stay safe(as safe as one can be) and that their families as well. Please hold your head up and keep on going, all will work out eventually.

As I was taking photos, I just felt the emotion that was there, from the soldiers, their families, and their friends.
I was also touched by how many people were around that didn’t have a relative that was being deployed, they just wanted to show their support for our troops.
It was an honor to be a part of the afternoon, and to be able to share it with so many readers.
Thanks for asking.
