Update–3 Vehicle Wreck on N Gabbert Sunday AM Sends 2 to Hospital

September 28th, 2008 by

A three vehicle wreck near the top of the hill in the 800 block of North Gabbert around 2 a.m. Sunday morning, sent two people to the hospital.

The Chevy Colorado, shown above, turned in front of the Olds Alero, which hit the tree on the west side of Gabbert St. according to the police report.

The driver of the Alero, Rodney Ridgell, was charged with DWI 2, no proof of insurance, and driving with a suspended license.

Also involved in the accident, was a third vehicle, a silver Saturn.

Lock & Keys towed the Alero, Tommy’s pulled the Chevy, and C & L transported the Saturn

  1. Anna says:

Oh my gosh! The people in Monticello need to SLOW DOWN! This is crazy. I know we are in a hurry these days, but being late, you can get over. Parents tell your children to slow down and parents need to also! Life is too precious. After everything that has happened last week, I was witness to an almost wreck in front of Burger King on Friday. Please SLOW DOWN!

  2. WB says:

I agree totally!!! The people in this town need to wake up and pay attention to other drivers. Please pay attention to what you are doing and what the car close to you is doing. Another life lost due to a car accident can be prevented if we all slow down and pay attention.

  3. Nikki says:

Not to be redundant but I completely agree with what was said by Anna and WB. I just can’t believe that people are in such a hurry that they have to drive so wrecklessly. Being late is always going to be better than not having the oportunity to ever be late again because you were killed in a car accident. Pay attention to the road rather than your cell phone or the clock!

  4. Momma Kirby says:

Please don’t tell me that you feel as if the innocent victims in the wrecks that happened tuesday and Thursday could have possibly been their fault because they weren’t paying attention to other drivers. Thats like telling a rape victim she should have been more careful or a murder victim you shouldnt have stepped in front of the bullet or knife. Yes i agree that we all sometimes get involved in our own world and dont pay close enough attention to whats going on around us but to imply that Dustin and /or Justin’s death was due to THEM being lax in someway is HORRIBLE. If I have misunderstood what your saying in the above comments them by all means I apologize but it just seems to me that the tone seems to imply that those two innocent boys were at fault somehow.

  5. Drew says:

They weren’t implying anything directly against either of the two boys who died earlier in the week, one of whom wasn’t even driving. They were general statements about the people in town. And while I don’t know exactly who was or was not at fault in this or any other wreck this week or any other time in Monticello history, I will say that I do agree with WB, Anna, and Nikki…The driving conditions in this town are horrible. There are many people living here and in the surrounding area who do everything behind the wheel EXCEPT pay attention to the road.

And before THAT gets taken out of context, even though I’m sure the people in the two fatal wrecks earlier in the week feel bad enough about what has happened, it needs to be a wake up call to the community.

  6. sue says:

Hope they all THANK THE LORD they weren’t killed.Praying they come out ok.

  7. WB says:

I wasn’t implying that it was Dustin or Justin’s fault at all. I was simply making the statement that everyone in this town and everywhere else in this world SLOW DOWN! I feel horrible for the victims of these awful tragedies. Please, let’s everyone try to be more careful on the roadways. Sorry that you took what I meant wrong.

  8. Anna says:

I wasn’t implying that it was the victims fault either! Like WB said, it was simply a statement about the crazy way some people drive in this town. My heart goes out to the victims and their families. Everyone in Monticello has been touched in some way by these tragedies. I hope that everyone will just slow down and take time to be safe.
