$150,000 Cash Bond Set for Parolee, Who Swam Bayou Bartholomew to Escape Arrest

On Wednesday August 10th, at approximately 10:13 A.M., Sheriff Mark Gober received a call from a Drug Task Force agent that had attempted to make a traffic stop on Jerry Brooks, who had outstanding warrants at the time. When the vehicle stopped, Brooks fled and the agent noticed a hand gun in Brooks’ hand.
Brooks was then located on Chicot Street in Dermott. The Task Force agent asked for the assistance of the Drew County Sheriff’s Department. A total of six officers from the Drew County Sheriff’s Department including Gober arrived moments later on Chicot Street. Also on scene were members of Chicot County Sheriff’s Department, Dermott Police Department, Ashley County Sheriff’s Department, and the Arkansas Department of Corrections K-9 unit.
The K-9 team tracked Brooks to the edge of Bayou Bartholomew and then picked up the track of Brooks on the west side of the Bayou in Drew County, showing that Brooks swam the Bayou. The tracking continued well into the night and was
suspended due to lack of tracks, by the dogs.
A deputy received a call around 3:00 A.M
that Brooks had stopped at a residence in Collins and changed shoes, before leaving again..
The next morning, DCSO drove to 16th Section Road where Brooks had been living with his father. As Sheriff Gober approached the residence, near the driveway, he observed Brooks riding on a four-wheeler, headed south towards him and turning into the driveway of his dad’s house.
As he drove into the yard, Brooks got off the four-wheeler, walked to the door of the home, and laid down at the door, which was opened by his dad.
Brooks was then taken into custody. Sargent Dan Garrison and Deputy John Herrington arrived at the scene and transported Brooks to the Drew County Detention Facility.
Jerry Brooks was given a $150,000.00 cash bond and remains in custody, facing Charges of felon in possession of a firearm, to failure to appear warrant and parole in Mandan about three weeks
