Up To $5,000 Reward Offered inLocal Animal Abuse Case

The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for duct taping a dog’s neck and snout, and subsequently abandoning the dog in Drew County, Arkansas.
The Case: On the evening of Feb. 25, a female pit bull mix was found limping along Tennessee Spur Road of Hwy. 287 with duct tape wrapped around her neck and snout. Drew County Sheriff’s deputies responded and were able to get the tape off the dog. The dog, who has been named Miracle by Second Chance Fur Dogs, is receiving veterinary care for her injuries.
Animal Cruelty: Violence against animals is a crime that affects entire communities. The connection between animal cruelty and human violence is well documented. Studies show a correlation between animal cruelty and many other crimes, from narcotics and firearms violations to battery and sexual assault. Securing the serious attention and engagement of law enforcement officials, prosecutors and residents in cases involving allegations of cruelty to animals is an essential step in protecting the whole community.
“It is a terrible act of cruelty to tape an animal’s snout shut and then abandon her in that perilous position–unable to defend herself, eat or drink,” said Amanda Good, Arkansas state director for the Humane Society of the United States. “We hope that the reward encourages anyone with information to come forward.”
