Dumas Juveniles Shoot Stop Sign in Monticello City Park, Lead Mayor & Police in Chase

n-hyatt-t-stopJust before 11 o’clock Saturday night, two Dumas juveniles were driving through Monticello’s City Park, and were seen shooting a stop sign (located at Henley & S. Borchardt St.) with what was believed to be a small caliber rifle.

An imediate phone call came into Monticello police dispatch saying the pair were leaving the scene in a dark Chevy pick-up, with Monticello Mayor Joe Rogers following them, providing police with direction of travel.

002-copyOfficers attempted to follow the Chevy truck, as it traveled north on HWY 425, east on Gaines, and then north on Hyatt St., where it was stopped by officers from Monticello Police, Drew County Deputies, and Arkansas State Police. (more…)

Tainted Cocaine Found in Drew County, Animal Dewormer Used as “Cutting Agent”

According to 10th Judicial Prosecuting Attorney Thomas Deen, a laboratory analysis of cocaine seized in Drew County in May has revealed the presence of a potentially dangerous drug used as a cutting agent to dilute the cocaine. The Arkansas State Crime Lab detected levamisole, a medication that is widely used as an animal dewormer, combined with cocaine base. (more…)

Annette Kellum Hall, age 65 of Monticello, went to be with her Lord August 6, 2009, at UAMS Hospital in Little Rock, AR. Born March 18, 1944 in Line, AR, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Jacob Kellum and Annie Christerlene Burchfield Kellum. She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Kellum and her baby sister, Laura Jean Kellum.

She was the Department Head of the Division of Music at the University of Arkansas at Monticello and a member of the Oak Grove Assembly of God Church. She was also member and past-president of the National Federation of Music Clubs, Arkansas Federation of Music Clubs and the Monticello Music Club.

Mrs. Hall was a member of the National Association of Schools of Music, Music Educators National Conference, National Association of Teachers of Singing and Pi Kappa Lambda, which is a national music honor society. She established the Friends of Music scholarship at UAM to enable students to pursue their education in music. She was also selected in 1986 as a Distinguished Alumnus by the University of Arkansas at Monticello Alumni Association.

Survivors include her husband, Barry Hall of Monticello; two sons, Dane Hall and wife, Paula of Bryant and Christopher Todd Hall of Las Vegas, NV; one brother, N.L. “Donnie” Kellum and wife, Martha of Monticello; two grandchildren, Garrett Hall and Abigail Hall both of Bryant; five special nieces, Regina Rhodes, Gayle Brown, Michelle Lay, Kathy Lyon-Pace and Melissa Hauser; one nephew, Michael Kellum; and her extended family members, Linda Orrell and Trenia Martin.

Pallbearers are Mike Hall, Lawayne Young, Richard Russell, Larry Williamson, Billy Shelby, Benny King, Bobby Farley, Devin Burns and Wes Thompson.

FORMER UAM WR SIGNS WITH JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

denmarkThe Jacksonville Jaguars announced yesterday the signing of former University of Arkansas at Monticello wide receiver Clarence Denmark.

Denmark was signed as a rookie free agent and is currently participating in the Jaguar’s pre-season training camp.
