135 Photos-Billies Win State Championship
December 7th, 2009 by Joe BurgessThe Monticello Sr. Billies completed their undefeated season with another impressive victory, this time by defeating the Camden-Fairview Cardinals in the State Championship Game at War Memorial Stadium in Little Rock, Friday night.
The 38-7 victory earned the Billies their first State Championship title in 15 years.
Brishen Matthews was selected as the game’s MVP, for the 195 combined yards he gained.
Monticello’s defense was outstanding, as well, holding Cardinal offense to only 67 yards in the first half.
The Billies had three different players with over 100 yards of offense in the victory.
Hooten’s Arkansas Football interviewed team members after the game. Quarterback Joe Carmical commented on how familiar the team was with running the triple-option, stating that they’ve used that offense since the 8th grade.
Coach Van Paschal pointed out that the team had made a commitment to the FCA group, and had began each practice and game in prayer, and that he felt God had honored the team for that.
